It is with hopeful sorrow that we let you know that Ruth “Betty” Helfrich went home to be with Lord this past Sunday Evening.

We sorrow, but not as those without hope! (see 1 Thes 4:13-18)

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday
at 12 pm at LCC. Visitation will be Friday, December 15th 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Adams Perfect Funeral Home and from 11:30 – Noon at the Church.

Ruth E. “Betty” Helfrich (nee Cordery), 92, of Linwood, went home to be with the Lord on December 10, 2023 surrounded by her family. Betty was born at home in Northfield, New Jersey, but lived the rest of her life in Linwood. She was crowned the first Miss Linwood in 1949.

Betty was the daughter of the late John M. and Edythe (Baker) Cordery. She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, George P. Helfrich, Sr., her son, Mark Daniel “Danny” Helfrich, her brothers, Robert and Ronald Cordery, as well as her brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph B. and Evelyn Helfrich, Donald and Barbara Helfrich, Nancy, and Elmer Madera, and Claire Cordery.

Betty was a graduate of Pleasantville High School, class of 49. She attended Trenton State Teachers College for one year prior to marrying the love of her life, George, in 1950. Betty was a stay-at-home mom for many years, but later worked for the Prudential Insurance Company of Linwood and the Atlantic City Electric Company in Pleasantville, retiring in 1993.

Betty lived a life of service to the Lord, her family, and her friends. She was a member of the Linwood Community Church for 70 years, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for 45 years; she was a founding member of the Handi-vangelism Ministry; she was a Deaconess, volunteered at the Atlantic City Rescue Mission and visited Haiti three times on missionary trips; hosted a Bible study at her home for 30 years. She did all of this with a gentle spirit and a loving heart.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Debra Giacomoni (nee Helfrich) and husband Richard, son George Helfrich, Jr. and wife, Joanna (nee Mahoney); grandchildren, Elizabeth DeSimone (nee Giacomoni) and husband Raymond, Brian Giacomoni and wife Bethany (nee Tromer) and great-grandchildren, Austin, Brandon and Elyse DeSimone; nieces and nephews; her lifelong friend, Betty Stiteler; her Birthday Club girls and many, many friends.

Friends and family may visit, December 15th for a viewing from 6-8 pm at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road in Northfield. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 16th at 12 pm at the Linwood Community Church, located at 1838 Shore Road in Linwood. A brief viewing will be held prior to the service between 11:30 and 12. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery located at Washington Avenue in Pleasantville.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Linwood Community Church or to the Atlantic City Rescue Mission.
